Lake Placid DMV closed after staffer tests positive

The Essex County Department of Motor Vehicles satellite office in Lake Placid will be closed for the next few days. A staff member there tested positive for COVID-19, and a second staffer is in quarantine, county Clerk Joseph Provoncha confirmed Thursday.

Lake Placid’s DMV is located in the North Elba Town Hall on Main Street. It’s usually open on Mondays and Thursdays, but the county DMV announced on Tuesday that its satellite offices would be closed through the end of next week. The county’s satellite office in Ticonderoga is also temporarily closed because of a staff member testing positive for COVID-19.

The county’s main DMV office at the county complex in Elizabethtown is still open, according to Provoncha. Some DMV transactions can also be completed online through the state DMV at dmv.ny.gov, though revenue generated through DMV transactions at the state DMV doesn’t come back to the county, as it would if residents use local DMV offices.

The Franklin County DMV office in Saranac Lake, at the Harrietstown Town Hall, is still closed. Saranac Lake’s DMV has been closed for months. The county’s main DMV office in Malone is open by appointment only. Appointments can be booked at franklincountydmv.setmore.com/bookappointment.
