Two more Franklin County residents die of COVID-19

Two more Franklin County residents have died this week after contracting COVID-19.

Franklin County Public Health on Wednesday confirmed the two new deaths: one person between the ages of 45 and 60, and another person over 60 years old. As usual throughout this pandemic, the county did not share further details about the people who died. Public health officials have often declined to share information that could be considered “identifying” because of federal privacy laws.

The two deaths this week bring the county’s total COVID-19 death toll to 16. Franklin County has seen three deaths altogether so far this month, all people who didn’t live in a nursing home or elder care facility.

Franklin County’s active case count and test positivity rate have both been declining this month as the vaccine rollout effort continues. As of Tuesday, about 30.5% of the county’s population had received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, according to the state Department of Health.

As of Wednesday, there were 116 active cases of COVID-19 across the county, two of them new on Wednesday. There was also one new probable case announced on Wednesday, meaning a person who was diagnosed by a doctor but whose case is not test-confirmed.

In Essex County, the number of active cases countywide was 24 as of Tuesday, two of those new cases. The number of new cases discovered across the county each day has fluctuated but has stayed below 10 new cases in one day since March 1. More than 33% of Essex County’s population has received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, according to the state Department of Health.

Across the North Country region, 143,151 people have received at least one vaccine dose. Statewide, 22.9% of New Yorkers (more than 4.5 million people) have been administered at least one vaccine dose, and 11.8% of the state population (more than 2.3 million people) had been fully vaccinated as of Wednesday.

Starting at $3.92/week.
