Tupper library starts program for early readers

TUPPER LAKE — The Tupper Lake Public Library recently received funding for “Little Books for Big People,” a new book discussion program for parents and caregivers focusing on children’s literature and early literacy development.

The $4,300 grant came from Adirondack Foundation’s Generous Acts Program.

The library will host a monthly discussion revolving around the needs of early readers by introducing participants to new children’s books and revisiting timeless classics. Themes under discussion will include everything from language, rhythm and musicality to grief, fear, creativity and friendship.

The library will also provide up to 15 local participants who have library cards with a set of books to add to their own personal library at home.

Sets of books will include such titles as “They All Saw A Cat” by Brendan Wenzel, “Say Zoop” by Herve Tullet, “The Velveteen Rabbit” by Margery Williams, “Ish” by Peter Reynolds, “Dear Girl” by Amy Krause Rosenthal, “Leo: A Ghost Story” by Mac Barnett and Christian Robinson, “We Are Water Protectors” by Carole Lindstrom, “The Book With No Pictures” by B.J. Novak, “The Boy and the Gorilla” by Jackie Azua Kramer, and “Giraffes Can’t Dance” by Giles Andreae.

This hybrid program will be held in-person at the library, but participants can also attend virtually. The kick-off session is slated for Tuesday, April 20 at 8:30 p.m. For more information, contact Library Director Ben Gocker at 518-359-9421.

The Tupper Lake Public Library, also known as the Goff-Nelson Memorial Library, was founded in 1932.

Starting at $3.92/week.
