Tupper Lake man jailed on gun, drug charges
TUPPER LAKE — Village police arrested a local man on numerous charges Friday after they allegedly found guns and drugs at his home.
Kenneth C. Lints, 31, is on probation and is therefore subject to searches of his home. One of those took place Friday morning at his home at the Top Notch Motel, 311 Park St. in the village, by the Tupper Lake Police Department, Franklin County Probation and New York State Police. TLPD Sgt. Jordan Nason said they paused the search when they found drugs, got a search warrant from village Justice Chris Delair, and then resumed the search under the terms of the warrant.
They found numerous gun parts, ammunition and two completely assembled guns. One of them was a submachine gun, which is illegal in general. The other was a pump-action shotgun, which “was illegal for him to possess because he is a two-time convicted felon and because he was on probation,” Nason said.
As for drugs, Nason said police found “different types of prescription pills that were not prescribed to the defendant,” as well as molly, otherwise known as ecstasy, and marijuana. None of the drug quantities were enough to make it obvious he planned to sell them, Nason said.
Police arrested Lints at 11 a.m. Friday on 11 charges: criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree (class D felony), criminal possession of a firearm (class E felony), two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree (class A misdemeanor), three counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree (class A misdemeanor), unlawful growing of cannabis (misdemeanor), two counts of possession of a controlled substance not in the original container (violation) and unlawful possession of marijuana in the second degree (violation).
Police said Lints was arraigned in Tupper Lake village court and remanded to the Franklin County Jail in Malone. He was still there Monday afternoon.
The investigation is continuing, the TLPD said.
