WASHINGTON — Northern New York’s member of Congress, Rep. Elise Stefanik, voted against gun-control bills that passed the Democratic-majority House of Representatives Thursday, calling them “unconstitutional.”

The legislation would require background checks on all firearms sales and transfers, and allow an expanded 10-day review for gun purchases.

“I am proud to have one of the strongest records of protecting and defending our Second Amendment rights in Congress on behalf of the North Country,” Stefanik, a Republican from Schuylerville, said in a statement.
