SARANAC LAKE — Saranac Lake Community Solar will commission its solar panel array with a ribbon-cutting ceremony to be held virtually on Friday, Feb. 12.
The ceremony will take place from 11 a.m. to noon. Solar industry partners and local and state dignitaries will be there in person, and due to the coronavirus pandemic, others can watch the ceremony on video streamed live on the Saranac Lake Area Chamber of Commerce Facebook page.
The project is located on state Route 86 just north of Lake Colby. It broke ground in May 2020 and began taking subscribers in July.
Saranac Lake Community Solar will be the first community solar farm in Adirondack Park. The energy it produces feeds into the local utility distribution grid for use by local subscribers, commercial and residential.
The solar array will produce over 2.4 million kiloWatt hours of clean, emissions-free energy every year. Saranac Lake Community Solar represents the growth of community solar projects throughout the country, supporting local environmentally friendly energy initiatives.
