Appointments go fast for Saranac Lake vaccine clinic

SARANAC LAKE — The Essex and Franklin County health departments are staging a coronavirus vaccine clinic in Saranac Lake on Thursday, but the appointments filled up quickly.

The two health departments are pooling resources to administer 400 first doses at a joint clinic at North Country Community College’s Saranac Lake campus this week.

Not long after the Essex County Health Department alerted members of the community on Tuesday that appointments were open for this clinic, the appointments were all filled, according to a notice posted on the state Department of Health’s appointment registration website.

The vaccine doses for the Saranac Lake clinic have been set aside for eligible essential workers and those with preexisting conditions. Public health officials have suggested those who are over the age of 65, thus eligible to be vaccinated, contact a local pharmacy to make an appointment to get vaccinated. Health care workers are able to get vaccinated at local facilities such as those run by Adirondack Health in Saranac Lake.

“Adirondack Health continues to seek Phase 1A individuals, including healthcare and behavioral health individuals, who may have not received a vaccine,” spokesman Matt Scollin said Monday.

To date, the Essex County Health Department has administered 1,043 vaccine doses. Altogether, 10,586 total vaccine doses have been administered in Essex County. Franklin County Public Health has not yet shared vaccine statistics.
