MALONE — Franklin County has recorded its first death of the month and seventh overall due to complications from COVID-19, officials said.

Findings of nine new positive cases and one recovery raised the total amount of known infections in the county to 58 people, according to the county manager’s office. There were 294 people listed in quarantine or isolation.

The total amount of confirmed county infections since the start of the pandemic is 334, county officials said.

The county’s new COVID-19 numbers raise its positivity rate to 4.2%, state officials said. The seven-day rolling positivity rate is 1.9%, and the 14-day rate is 1.8%.

County health officials this week announced in a press release a travel advisory to minimize or eliminate holiday travel as much as possible, as a way to combat COVID-19. Places considered by New York to be “contagious states” are Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts and Vermont.

Those who travel outside the state for more than 24 hours must be tested within 72 hours prior to returning to New York. Such travelers will also need to quarantine for a minimum of three days. On the fourth day after their return, they can seek a diagnostic test to exit quarantine, officials said.

Anyone who leaves the state for less than 24 hours does not need to be tested before leaving their traveled state and does not need to quarantine upon return. “However, such travelers must fill out the traveler form upon entry and must obtain a diagnostic test on the fourth day after arrival in New York,” officials said.
