LAKE PLACID — The Whiteface Lodge and Urgo Hotels are again partnering with the U.S. Department of Agriculture to bring fresh dairy, produce, meat and dried good foods to households in the Lake Placid area.

On Thursday, Dec. 3, pre-packaged boxes of food will be distributed to the public at the Whiteface Lodge, 7 Whiteface Inn Lane, Lake Placid. These boxes are part of the USDA’s Farmers to Families program, which is currently experiencing excess goods from farms with limited storage.

This food drive is open to anyone on a first-come, first-served basis. Each car can request up to three food boxes to take with them. Each box contains fresh dairy products, fresh produce including potatoes and other vegetables, meat and other dried goods.

The event begins at 11 a.m. and lasts until the boxes are gone. The Whiteface Lodge says it will post updates on its Facebook page.

Such Farmers to Families food giveaways have taken place periodically since summer. The Whiteface Lodge hosted the most recent one in the Tri-Lakes aea, on Oct. 29, and says it hopes to continue doing so this winter.
