‘Succession’ to begin filming Thursday at Great Escape

QUEENSBURY — The HBO television show “Succession” will be filming scenes at Great Escape on Thursday.

Crews are currently filming in Lake Placid at a lodge, according to Adirondack Film Commissioner Andrew Meader.

“They’re heading down here (Wednesday) and they shoot on Thursday and possibly into Friday, depending on the weather,” he said.

The show is about a fight among four children to take control of their father’s media conglomerate as patriarch Logan Roy, played by Brian Cox, steps back from his role.

Meader explained that the company on the show acquires other businesses, and he believes the local scenes will depict the family at a ribbon-cutting or some other official function for the amusement park, which is owned by the conglomerate.

The show was created by Jesse Armstrong and also features Kieran Culkin, Alan Ruck, Sarah Snook and Nicholas Braun as Roy’s children and Hiam Abbass as his third wife, according to the HBO website.

Meader said the producers were familiar with the area because some of them had also worked on Showtime’s “Escape From Dannemora” miniseries.

A driving scene will be filmed on a Lake George road, but Meader did not have the exact location.

Grant Wilfley Casting was casting extras ages 18 and older to play “upscale business types and amusement park-goer types,” according to a Facebook page.

People who are interested in being cast as extras are asked to send an email to locations@gwcnyc.com, with a clear current photo of themselves along with their name and phone number. The subject line should say “Flyer Upstate NY,” and people should note where they live and if they are a member of SAG-AFTRA or are nonunion.
