Wintry weather mix prompts college to close early, cancels school sports travel
A wintry mix of snow, rain and ice has prompted college closings and the cancellation of sports team travel at local schools today.
North Country Community College closed all three of its campuses — in Saranac Lake, Malone and Ticonderoga — at 1 p.m.
Due to the weather, the Saranac Lake Placid girls hockey team will not travel to Potsdam for a scheduled game, and the Saranac Lake High School boys basketball team will not drive to Plattsburgh.
“A widespread rain develops tonight with areas of freezing rain expected, due to very cold surface temperatures,” the National Weather Services wrote today in a Winter Weather Advisory for northern New York and Vermont. “Expect slippery roads and limited visibilities, and use caution while driving. Please allow extra time if travel is necessary.”
The Enterprise will report more as news comes in. To report cancellations, call Managing Editor Peter Crowley at 518-891-2600 ext. 22.
