‘Escape at Dannemora’ nominated for awards

‘Tis the season of screen awards nominations, and presents are pouring in for “Escape at Dannemora.”

The Ben Stiller-directed limited television series on two convicted murderers’ 2015 breakout from Clinton Correctional Facility in Dannemora has been nominated for two Golden Globe awards and five Critics’ Choice awards.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s Golden Globe nominations, announced last week, included the series in the category of Best Television Limited Series or Motion Picture.

Also nominated in that category are “A Very English Scandal,” which aired on Amazon; “The Alienist,” TNT; “The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story,” FX; and “Sharp Objects,” HBO.

Also, Patricia Arquette, who plays Joyce “Tilly” Mitchell, is in the running for Best Actress. She is up against Amy Adams for “Sharp Objects,” Connie Britton for “Dirty John,” Laura Dern for “The Tale” and Regina King for “Seven Seconds.”

“We’re grateful to Showtime for believing in this production and supporting it so fully and the people of the North Country and Clinton Correctional for helping bring it to life,” Stiller said.

The Golden Globe winners will be presented Jan. 6.

The Critics’ Choice award nominations for 2019 were announced Monday.

“Escape at Dannemora” was nominated for Best Limited Series; Best Actor for Paul Dano, who plays escapee David Sweat; Best Actor for Benecio Del Toro, who plays escapee David Sweat; Best Actress for Arquette; and Best Supporting Actor for Eric Lange, who plays Lyle Mitchell, Tillie’s husband.
