Canadian Pacific Holiday Train returns for 20th anniversary

PLATTSBURGH — The Canadian Pacific Holiday Train is rolling through North America and Canada for the 20th time this holiday season to raise money, food, and awareness for local food shelves. This year, the train will be arriving at the Plattsburgh Amtrak Station on Tuesday, Nov. 27 at 7 p.m.

The train is covered with thousands of twinkling lights and the Sam Roberts Band and JoJo Mason will entertain attendees. The whole event lasts between 30 and 45 minutes. The Joint Council for Economic Opportunity will be collecting nonperishable food items and donations for their food pantries. Perkins Restaurant will be offering free hot cocoa and baked goods. Perkins will also be distributing coupons for free kid’s meals and games at Champy’s FunCity for the children in attendance.

The CP’s Holiday Train brings awareness to hunger and heart disease in our communities. The event is free, but attendees are challenged to bring a heart healthy food item. The Canadian Pacific Railway encourages healthy donations to combat heart disease, which can affect anyone, regardless of age and gender. Suggestions include brown rice, canned fruits and vegetables, peanut butter, beans and lentils. All food and money collected supports JCEO’s food pantries.

Since 1999, the Holiday Train has raised more than 14.5 million Canadian dollars and 4.3 million pounds of food for North American food banks. Everything raised in a community stays in that community. In addition, CP makes a donation at each stop. CP encourages fans to take photos to enter the Capture the Spirit photo contest. You could win a trip for four aboard the 2019 CP Holiday Train as well as a $1,000 donation to your local food bank.
