Democratic state Senate candidate Emily Martz suffered minor dehydration after participating in a 10K race Sunday morning in Malone.
Martz, who is challenging Republican Sen. Elizabeth Little in the 45th Senate District, was competing in the Star of the North road race when she required medical attention. Martz, who lives in Saranac Lake, was treated for dehydration at Alice Hyde Medical Center in Malone.
Martz, an avid runner, regularly competes in road races.
“I have been an avid runner since my teens and was caught off guard by the heat,” she said in a statement released by her campaign.
Martz thanked race officials, volunteers and the staff at Alice Hyde Medical Center. She was scheduled to return to the campaign trail on Tuesday.
