Missing hunter found dead

Ira Munn Boardman

ELLENBURG CENTER – A Vermont man who has been missing for more than a week was found dead this morning on the eighth day of looking for him.

Volunteers and forest rangers found Ira Munn Boardman, 58, of South Hero, Vermont, early Sunday morning after hundreds of searchers had previously combed the woods around Boardman’s hunting camp in Ellenburg Center.

Clinton County Coroner David Donah told the Press-Republican newspaper that the body was found around 10:30 a.m. Sunday but that no cause of death was immediately apparent. Donah said the body would undergo an autopsy.

Boardman was reported missing last Saturday, and over the course of the Thanksgiving week, hundreds of search and rescue volunteers, firefighters and law enforcement officers looked for any sign of him. Crews were hindered by harsh weather and heavy snowfall early in the week.
