Shapiro hosts open rail-trail meeting Tuesday

SARANAC LAKE – Village trustee Rich Shapiro will host a second open meeting Tuesday, Oct. 25 to discuss amenities along the proposed rail-trail. The meeting will only discuss amenities along the 2.3 miles of trail that are within the village limits.

The meeting will be from 4 to 6 p.m. at the village offices in the Harrietstown Town Hall on Main Street in Saranac Lake.

Shapiro, who is the village representative to the rail-trail stakeholder group, is also going to walk the 2.3 miles of the corridor prior to the meeting.

“To aid in this discussion, I will be walking this section on Tuesday afternoon from 1 to 3 p.m. Any and all are welcome to join me, starting from Will Roger’s Drive at 1 p.m.,” Shapiro said in a press release. “Hopefully some folks will be able to leave a car near the Aubuchon crossing to help ferry people back to the start.”

Shapiro hopes to get input on main and secondary access points and placement of amenities such as benches and bike racks. He is also looking for input on any areas of concern, historic features and “essentially any point or section that should be highlighted and addressed in some form or fashion along the trail corridor.”
