Four locals arrested in Econo Lodge incident

LAKE PLACID – Four locals were arrested as a result of trespassing and other crimes Monday morning at the Econo Lodge.

A manager of the motel on Cascade Road called to report the incident at 9:33 a.m., and state police responded.

The arrestees were Kevin Meade, 26, of Vermontville, Carol Meade, 24, of Bloomingdale, Tanner Meade, 21, of Vermontville, and a 17-year-old girl from Lake Placid whom the Enterprise is not naming because she is underage. All four were charged with criminal trespassing in the second degree because, police said, they had been told in August 2015 not to stay at the Econo Lodge. All four were also charged with disorderly conduct because police said they used vulgar language in the presence of the motel’s staff and patrons.

Kevin Meade and the 17-year-old were also charged with menacing in the third degree. Police said Kevin Meade said he would “pop” or “cap” someone, making that person fear Meade was going to hit or shoot him. Police said the 17-year-old girl threatened someone with a punching motion.

Kevin Meade, Tanner Meade and the 17-year-old were also charged with theft of service for allegedly failing to pay for Room 125 at the Econo Lodge on April 3 and April 4. Carol Meade was charged with conspiracy in the sixth degree for her involvement in letting them stay in that room without paying.

State police said they learned during their investigation that Kevin Meade was on parole. The other three suspects were arraigned in North Elba town court, sent to Essex County Jail on $500 to $1,000 bail and ordered to return to court April 12.

Starting at $3.92/week.
