Dry conditions raise fire danger throughout Northeast
Dry conditions, warm weather, low humidity and gusty winds set the stage for a wildland fire north of Tupper Lake and brush fires that have broken out all over Vermont.
Firefighters from numerous North Country departments have been fighting a fire today that span several acres in the Township 19 area north of Tupper Lake.
Meanwhile, the National Weather Service says at least a half a dozen brush fires have been reported across the dry state of Vermont. Meteorologist Andrew Loconto, of the Burlington office, says fires have been reported today from Brattleboro to Charlotte, including fires in Woodford, Brookline, Brandon and Rutland.
Loconto says officials are unaware of any significant property damage or injuries.
A red flag warning remains in effect for most of New York, all of Vermont, much of New Hampshire and Maine, eastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey through this evening.
The Weather Service says fires may spread “rapidly and uncontrollably.”
Meanwhile, firefighters in New York’s Hudson Valley are fighting a fire in the Shawangunk Ridge State Forest near Summitville.
