SARANAC LAKE – Village police charged Ryan K. Babcock, 22, of Saranac Lake, with unlawful possession of marijuana at 10:32 p.m. Wednesday. Police said Babcock’s car was stopped for a vehicle and traffic infraction, and he was subsequently found to be in possession of a small amount of marijuana. Babcock was given an appearance ticket for village court.

BLOOMINGDALE – Firefighters from Bloomingdale and Saranac Lake were called to a reported structure fire at 49 Grass Pond Way at 8:47 a.m. Thursday. Firefighters said it was a propane heater fire that was out by the time they arrived at the scene. The Saranac Lake Volunteer Fire Department sent two trucks and six members, who were back in service at 10:03 a.m.

LAKE PLACID – The Lake Placid Volunteer Fire Department responded to an alarm activation at the Lake Placid Lodge, 144 Lodge Way, at 4:47 p.m. Thursday with one truck and 10 members. Firefighters said the alarm was triggered by a closed damper on a fireplace. They were back in service at 5:17 p.m.

LAKE PLACID – The Lake Placid Volunteer Fire Department was called to Redneck Bistro, at the interesection of Wesvalley Road and Saranac Avenue at 5:50 p.m. Thursday with one truck and 13 members. Firefighters said a neighbor had reported a fire in the buiding’s hood. Firefighters investigated and determined the call was unfounded. They were back in service at 6:13 p.m.

SARANAC LAKE – Village police charged Kevin B. Meade, 51, of Saranac Lake, with violation of a Franklin County Family Court support order at 9:15 a.m. Friday. Police said Meade was arrested on a warrant issued by Judge Robert Main Jr. He was arraigned and remanded to the Franklin County Jail on $9,000 cash bail or $18,000 bond pending an Oct. 28 family court appearance.

SARANAC LAKE – Village police charged Jason G. Garrand, 34, of Saranac Lake, with second-degree criminal contempt at 2:40 p.m. Friday. Police said he was arrested on a warrant issued by town of Harrietstown court for violating a stay away order of protection issued on Aug. 25. He allegedly had unwanted physical contact with the protected person on Sept. 15. Garrand was arraigned and released after posting $1,000 cash bail. He’s schedule to return to court at a later date to answer the charge.

TUPPER LAKE – Village police arrested Brandon C. Rolley, 23, of Tupper Lake, on a bench warrant issued by village court at 6:16 p.m. Friday. Police weren’t able to provide any further information on why the warrant was issued. Rolley was remanded to the Franklin County Jail pending a Tuesday appearance in village court.

TUPPER LAKE – A traffic stop on Pleasant Avenue early Sunday morning led to several charges against a local man. Shawn J. Benware, 37, was charged with driving while intoxicated, driving with a blood alcohol content greater than 0.08 percent, obstructing governmental administration, third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, refusal to take a breath test, consumption of alcohol in a motor vehicle and parking on the pavement. Benware was arraigned and remanded to the Franklin County Jail in lieu of $550. He’s scheduled to appear in village court Oct. 6.

TUPPER LAKE – State police charged a 15-year-old male and a 14-year-old male, both from Tupper Lake, with third-degree criminal tampering on Thursday and Friday, respectively. The charges stem from a vandalism complaint that dates to July 7. Police say the teens poured sugar into the gas tank of a 2004 Chevy Silverado pickup truck parked outside a residence on Sunset Avenue. The teens were given family court appearance tickets.

TUPPER LAKE – State police charged Amanda J. Hall, 20, of Salem, with unlawful possession of marijuana at 10:10 p.m. Friday on state Route 30 in the town of Tupper Lake. She was issued an appearance ticket for town court.

PAUL SMITHS – The Paul Smiths-Gabriels Volunteer Fire Department responded to an alarm activation at Northbrook Lodge, 58 North Brook Road, on Friday with two trucks and six members. Firefighters said the alarm was triggered by the damper on a fireplace not being opened. No further information was provided.

SARANAC LAKE – The Saranac Lake Volunteer Fire Department took a call at 8:51 a.m. Sunday for a wild fire. The fire was small, on less than one acre of property, at 434 Oseetah Lake Road. Two trucks, a boat and six firefighters were on scene to extinguish the fire. The fire department was back in service at 11:26 a.m.

SARANAC LAKE – The Saranac Lake Volunteer Fire Department responded to an alarm activation at Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake at 4:59 p.m. Sunday. One truck and eight members responded. The alarm was set off by burnt toast. The fire department was back in service at 5:16 p.m.

SARANAC LAKE – The Saranac Lake Volunteer Fire Department responded to a report of someone smelling smoke at 5:34 p.m. Sunday. Four members and one truck responded. Construction work was determined to be the cause of the smell. No action was needed.

SARANAC LAKE – The Saranac Lake Volunteer Fire Department responded to a fire alarm activation at 78 Edgewood Rd. at 8:39 a.m. Thursday with three members and one truck. Firefighters said the alarm was triggered by a faulty detector. They were back in service at 9:06 a.m.

LAKE PLACID – The Lake Placid Volunteer Fire Department responded to an alarm activation at the Whiteface Lodge at 11:52 a.m. Thursday with one truck and five members. Firefighters said steam had set off the alarm. They were back in service at 12:21 p.m.

LAKE PLACID – The Lake Placid Volunteer Fire Department responded to an alarm activation at Milano North restaurant on Main Street at 4:05 p.m. Thursday with one truck and 10 members. The pizza oven had set off the alarm. Firefighters were back in service at 4:33 p.m.

TUPPER LAKE – Two teenagers from Tupper Lake have to appear in court because village police found them with marijuana and alcohol after pulling them over for a traffic stop at 9:34 p.m. Monday.

The driver, a 17-year-old male whom police did not name because he may be eligible for youthful offender status, was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation, and also got a traffic ticket for driving after 9 p.m. with a juvenile license. Police also charged 19-year-old Christine Kelly with having alcohol when she was under the age of 21, a violation. Both are scheduled to appear in village court on Sept. 29.

LAKE PLACID – Village police charged Apollo T. Ruiz, 27, of Fort Drum, with exposure of a person at 12:40 a.m. Friday. Police said he exposed himself in public while urinating on the sidewalk. He was released to a third party on his own recognizance to appear in village court at a later date.

LAKE PLACID – Village police charged a 16 year-old male from Bloomingdale with unlawful possession of marijuana at 8:05 a.m. Friday. Police said the teen, whose name wasn’t released because he may be eligible for youthful offender status, was charged after they investigated a complaint that a small amount of marijuana was found in a public place. He was given an appearance ticket for village court.

LAKE PLACID – The Lake Placid Volunteer Fire Department responded to a two-car collision on Newman Road at 8:58 a.m. Monday with one truck and 10 members. Firefighters provided traffic control, returning to the fire station at 9:53 a.m.

SARANAC LAKE – Village police charged John J. Gladd, 48, of Saranac Lake, with driving while intoxicated at 8:50 p.m. Saturday. Police said Gladd’s vehicle was stopped for an equipment violation, and he was allegedly found to be intoxicated. He was processed and released to a third party to appear in town of Harrietstown court at a later date.

TUPPER LAKE – Village police charged Cynthia A. Castle, 46, of Massena, with driving while intoxicated and driving with a blood alcohol content greater than 0.08 percent at 8:11 p.m. Saturday. Police said Castle was stopped on Demars Boulevard for driving with no headlights and was found to be intoxicated. She was issued tickets to appear in village court Oct. 6.

TUPPER LAKE – State police charged Nathan P. Toohey, 24, of Tupper Lake, with second-degree criminal contempt at 8:38 p.m. Friday. Police say he disobeyed a court order. Toohey was arrested on Demars Boulevard in the town of Tupper Lake, but no further details were available.

TUPPER LAKE – State police charged Robert L. Galusha, 21, of Tupper Lake, and a 17-year-old Tupper Lake girl with unlawful possession of marijuana at 3:10 a.m. Sunday. Police said they were found in possession of a small amount of marijuana on Wawbeek Avenue in the village of Tupper Lake. They were issued appearance tickets for village court.

LAKE PLACID – The Lake Placid Volunteer Fire Department responded to an alarm activation at 191 Totem Way at 2:09 a.m. Saturday with one truck and three members. Firefighters said it was a faulty alarm. They were back in service at 2:43 a.m.

LAKE PLACID – The Lake Placid Volunteer Fire Department responded to an alarm activation at 82 Lake Placid Club Way at 7:53 a.m. Saturday with one truck and seven members. Firefighters said the alarm was set off by hair spray. They were back in service at 8:19 a.m.

LAKE PLACID – The Lake Placid Volunteer Fire Department responded to a report of power lines arcing on Station Street at 1:08 p.m. Saturday with one truck and nine members. Firefighters secured the scene until a village Electric Department crew arrived. They were back in service at 1:26 p.m.

LAKE PLACID -The Lake Placid Volunteer Fire Department responded to an alarm activation at 68 Algonquin Drive at 4:30 p.m. Saturday with one truck and 10 members. Firefighters said it was a faulty alarm head. They were back in service at 4:53 p.m.

LAKE PLACID – Village police charged Jessica L. Olbrys, 37, of New Hartford, with driving while intoxicated, driving with a blood alcohol content of 0.08 percent or greater, and failure to yield the right of way after stopping at 9:30 p.m. Saturday. Police said Olbrys was stopped for a traffic infraction. After an investigation, she was allegedly found to be intoxicated. Olbrys was released to a third party on $100 cash bail to appear in village court at a later date.

LAKE PLACID – Village police charged Melissa Tyer, 34, of Montreal, with driving while intoxicated, driving with a blood alcohol content of 0.08 percent or greater, failure to maintain lane and failure to keep right at 3:59 a.m. Sunday. Police said Tyer was stopped for a traffic infraction. After an investigation, she was allegedly found to be intoxicated. Tyer was released to a third party on $100 cash bail to appear in village court at a later date.

TUPPER LAKE – The Tupper Lake Volunteer Fire Department responded to an alarm activation at 2445 state Route 30, Sunmount, at 1:41 p.m. Wednesday. Firefighters said no action was taken.

TUPPER LAKE – The Tupper Lake Volunteer Fire Department responded to a report of a power pole blocking Moss Rock Road at 1 a.m. Wednesday. Firefighters secured the scene and provided traffic control until a National Grid crew arrived.

SARANAC LAKE – Two Saranac Lake residents were arrested Monday morning for allegedly violating the conditions of their sentencing from prior convictions.

Police said Franklin County Judge Robert Main Jr. issued arrest warrants for Beth M. Woodruff, 41, and Timothy P. Johnson, 29, for violating the conditions of their sentencing, which stemmed from previous drug-related arrests.

Even thought the warrants came in at the same time, police said the arrests were unrelated.

Woodruff was initially arrested on December 16 and convicted of fourth degree criminal sale of a controlled substance and fifth degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Johnson was initially arrested on August 24 and convicted of fifth degree attempted criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Both arrestees were remanded to Franklin County Sheriff’s Deputies to await arraignment in Franklin County Court.

SARANAC LAKE – The Saranac Lake Volunteer Fire Department responded to an alarm activation at the Ace Hardware plaza at 667 Lake Flower Ave. at 5:07 p.m. with one truck and seven members. The alarm was determined to have malfunctioned and the volunteers were back at the station at 5:44 p.m.

SARANAC LAKE – The Saranac Lake Volunteer Fire Department helped state Department of Transportation workers remove a large fallen tree from the road about one mile west of the Ampersand Mountain trailhead on state Route 3. The department responded to the 9:14 p.m. call with one truck and eight members. The volunteers were back at the station at 10:12 p.m.

LAKE PLACID – The Lake Placid Volunteer Fire Department responded to an accidental alarm activation at 151 Victor Herbert Road at 12:39 p.m. with one truck and seven members. The volunteers were back at the station at 1:32 p.m.

SARANAC LAKE – Saranac Village Police arrested Shawn L. Mcpherson, 40, at 6:35 a.m. August 30 and charged him with disorderly conduct after receiving a complaint that he was allegedly obstructing vehicle traffic by walking in the roadway.

Police described Mcpherson as homeless.

Mcpherson was arraigned in North Elba town court and remanded to Essex County jail in lieu of $100 cash or $500 bond.

TUPPER LAKE – Tupper Lake Village Police stopped Anthony L. Martin, 47, of Tupper Lake at 1:52 p.m. Friday and charged him with third degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, a misdemeanor.

TUPPER LAKE – Tupper Lake Village Police discovered methamphetamine and marijuana during a vehicle stop at 9:05 p.m. Friday.

Police arrested Jonathan R. Degrande, 32, of Rochester and charged him with criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor, for possession of methamphetamine and unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation. Degrande was arraigned in Tupper Lake village court and remanded to Franklin County jail in lieu of $2,500 cash or $5,000 bond.

Police also arrested Thomas J. Cartwright, 48, of Dansville and charged him with unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation. He was ticketed and released on his own recognizance.

SARANAC LAKE – The Saranac Lake Volunteer Fire Department responded to a reported smoke condition at 10 Petrova Ave. at 7:44 p.m. Thursday with one truck and 17 members. Firefighters said it was a heavy smoke condition coming from a barbecue smoker. It was out by the time firefighters arrived on scene. They were back in service at 8:06 p.m.

TUPPER LAKE – The Tupper Lake Volunteer Fire Department responded to an alarm activation at 18 Hamilton Ave., a Sunmount building, at 9:03 a.m. Thursday. Firefighters said no action was taken.

TUPPER LAKE – Village police arrested Nathan P. Toohey, 25, of Tupper Lake, at 5:10 a.m. Tuesday at 104 Main St. He was charged with criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation, acting in a manner injurious to a child less than 17, fourth-degree criminal mischief and second-degree harassment. Information on what the charges stem from wasn’t immediately available. Toohey was remanded to the Franklin County Jail in lieu of $2,500 cash bail or $5,000 bond.

LAKE PLACID – Village police charged Jorge A. Melgar-Cruz, 40, of Paul Smiths, with third-degree criminal mischief, at 7:19 p.m. on Aug. 27. Police said the charge stemmed from damage to a police patrol vehicle during an Aug. 9 disorderly conduct arrest. Melgar-Cruz allegedly punched and damaged the hood of the vehicle. He was processed and released of his own recognizance to appear in village court at a later date.

LAKE PLACID – Village police charged Dennis L. Sanders, 64, of Bristol, Connecticut, with driving while intoxicated, driving with a blood alcohol content of 0.08 percent or greater and operating without headlamps at 9:25 p.m. on Aug. 22. Police said Sanders’ vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation, and he was allegedly found to be intoxicated. He was released to a third party on $250 cash bail to appear in village court at a later date.

LAKE CLEAR – The Saranac Lake Volunteer Fire Department responded to a one-car rollover crash on state Route 186 at 10:54 p.m. Tuesday night with one truck and four members. Firefighters said one person suffered minor injuries and was transported to Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake. Firefighters controlled traffic and assisted rescue personnel, returning to the fire station at 11:51 p.m.

KEENE – Wilmington-based state police charged Tina M. Smith, 48, of Keene, with second-degree criminal contempt at 3:10 p.m. Saturday at 45 Church St. in the town of Keene. Police said Smith disobeyed a court order. She was given an appearance ticket for town of Keene court.

SARANAC LAKE – The Saranac Lake Volunteer Fire Department responded to a report of a dryer fire at 122 Broadway, an apartment building, at 8:10 p.m. with one truck and 11 members. Firefighters said the contents of the dryer caught fire due to a malfunction. The blaze was extinguished and contained to the dryer. Firefighters were back in service at 9:13 p.m.

TUPPER LAKE – The Tupper Lake Volunteer Fire Department responded to an alarm activation at the Sunmount RIT, 65 Monroe Ave., at 3:17 p.m. Sunday. Firefighters said a faulty air compressor caused the sprinkler system to trip the alarm. No action was taken.

LAKE PLACID – The Lake Placid Volunteer Fire Department responded to a fire alarm activation at 1:45 p.m. Saturday at 2519 Main St. The cause of the alarm was due to burnt food, and no action was needed. They were back in service at 2:16 p.m.

LAKE PLACID – The Lake Placid Volunteer Fire Department responded at 8:30 p.m. Saturday to a power line that arched on Edgley Way. There was a tree rubbing against the power line. One truck and four members responded, and they waited on scene until the tree was cleared. They were back in service at 9:18 p.m.

LAKE PLACID – The Lake Placid Volunteer Fire Department responded to carbon monoxide alarm activation at 6 p.m. Sunday at 171 Mill Pond Drive. One truck and five members were on the scene. It was determined to be a false alarm, and no action was needed. They were back in service at 6:17 p.m.
