TUPPER LAKE – An incident while driving led to a brawl between five Tupper Lake residents Monday morning.

Village police said Mason P. Toohey, 24, passed a truck driven by Wayne J. Lathier Jr., 22, in the no-passing lane by the civic center on McLaughin Avenue at 7:30 a.m. Monday. After passing the truck, police said Toohey slammed on his brakes, causing the truck to crash into the back of his car. The three occupants of the car then exited the vehicle and began to chase the truck as it backed away from the scene.

All parties parked at the village garage and called 911 before fighting in the civic center parking lot. Tupper Lake Police Chief Eric Proulx said his department received conflicting stories from those involved, so they launched an investigation and made arrests Tuesday evening based on eye-witness accounts.

Nathan Toohey was charged with reckless driving, a misdemeanor, and passing in a no-passing zone, a violation. Mason’s brother Austin, 19, and their father Paul, 47, and who were occupants of the car, were both charged with disorderly conduct.

Wayne J. Lanthier Jr., 22, was the driver of the truck. He was charged with disorderly conduct. Wayne’s father, Wayne Sr., 54, was called to the scene by his son and was also charged with disorderly conduct. All parties were issued orders of protection, arraigned in village court and released on their own recognizance.
