KEENE VALLEY — The Book and Blanket Players Youth Theatre has scheduled two casting days for its annual summer musical-in-a-week production.

The casting days will be May 17 from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and May 18 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Keene Valley Library. Ages 8 to 18 are invited to participate and will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

This summer brings another original musical to the stage for this theatre company. “Everyone Loves Camping” was created by Westport residents and high school students Cooper Halloran and Sadie Burgess along with the company’s producer/director Kathleen Recchia. For months, the team has been meeting on a weekly basis working on plot, dialogue and music for this story about a family camping trip that doesn’t turn out exactly as “Dad” had planned.

“It has been a challenging experience for all of us,” Recchia said in a statement. “But we’re very happy with the outcome. There is humor, drama and of course, song and dance. We’re excited to hear what our cast of students will do with it.”

The intensive youth musical theatre workshop will run from July 7 through July 14 at Keene Central School in Keene Valley.

Registration forms are available by contacting Recchia at 518-708-3606 or emailing bookinnjay@aol.com The registration fee is $100.

Many of the production team members from previous years will be returning including vocal coach-master class teacher, Alisa Endsley. Endsley is well known in the Broadway community. As a leading actress, Endsley has worked with some of the biggest names on Broadway including composer Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber, Director Trevor Nunn, Tony wining actors Patti Lupone, George Hearn and Betty Buckley.

Other members of the creative team are Rose Chancler, (Piano by Nature), Annie Scavo, Cal Page-Bryant, Maddy Runyon and Kim Peralta, with Lia Looms on hand for costuming.

This is the 14th year the players will take on the musical-in-a-week format. They began with the musical “Mirette,” followed by the first incarnation of the original musical “Road to Dannemora.” Last year, they presented their own musical twist to the Robert Louis Stevenson classic, “Treasure Island.”

The Book and Blanket Players produces in partnership with East Branch Friends of the Arts. The players also announced on Monday that the group has recieved support from Stewart’s Holiday Match and the Pumpkin Hill Foundation for its annual summer musical-in-a-week theatre production.
