TUPPER LAKE — Raquette River Brewing and Arthur’s on the Road will host “Brewin’ for the Bandshell” Saturday.
The brewery and barbecue truck are coming together to raise money for the efforts to construct the bandshell and develop hillside seating in Flanders Park.
“The bandshell is something we really need,” Raquette River co-owner and brewer Mark Jessie said. “It’s going to bring a little more culture to Tupper Lake and hopefully new artists that have never been here. And it’s another reason to come to Tupper Lake.
“We hope everyone turns out because it’s a great cause.”
The event will last from from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the brewery, 11 Balsam St. An all-day lineup of music features local artists: Jim & E perform from noon to 2 p.m., followed by Dorran Boushie 2 to 3, Ian Doherty from 3 to 4, Brock Gonyea from 4 to 6 and Joshua Weise from 6 to 8.
The musicians will all play acoustically, rotating on and off inside the brewery, Jessie said. The event will include an raffle with products donated by local businesses and an outdoor fire pit all day long using the brewery’s chiminea.
Arthur’s on the Road food truck will serve up open rotisserie French dip roast beef sandwiches with cheese, au jus and a side of fries throughout the day for $10, owner Don Vaillancourt said. The truck will also make free deliveries around the Tupper Lake area.
A portion of every beer and sandwich sale will go to the Flanders Performance Park Fund. Money earned from the raffle will also go to the fund and attendees can also make donations.
“It’s going to be a fun time,” Vaillancourt said. “You have live music, drinks and food, and it’s going to be a great way to donate to the band shell and to support the community.”
The village hopes to raise an additional $85,000 to construct the bandshell on the shore of Raquette Pond for Flanders Performance Park. The project has received $150,000 in grant funding from the state Department of State Local Waterfront Revitalization Program and $12,500 from the Lions Club.
The local Lions Club also teamed up with the Veterans of Foreign Wars and hosted a picnic in August, which raised approximately $4,000.
Supporters have launched a crowdfunding campaign through Woodmen of the World’s nonprofit fundraising website, and a family has offered a matching challenge in which they will donate $10,000 to the fund if others will donate $10,000 or more.
As of Nov. 26, the fund had raised $10,170 including online, check and event donations and matching donations started after the fund raised $9,020. Residents interested in donating can go to https://redbasket.org/1118.
The village anticipates beginning the building process in April or May and hopes to have the venue up and running by Fourth of July weekend.
