Lake Placid Hot Yoga expands its offerings
LAKE PLACID – In October, Lake Placid Hot Yoga began a new weekly group class. The class is a moderate-level yoga class, the first class at regular room temperature.
Julie Bell and Cindy Lunsford became the new co-owners of Hot Yoga Lake Placid in March 2014. They are working together to bring share their passion of yoga and the Adirondacks by offering new classes, yoga retreats and teacher training programs.
“We are expanding the type of yoga classes we offer and inviting new teachers to join us so we can bring the many benefits of yoga to a broader audience in Lake Placid,” Bell said. “We have developed a following for Hot yoga and Ashtanga yoga and our main focus will continue to be on these styles.”
Lunsford is also the owner of Saratoga Springs Hot Yoga.
“In Saratoga Springs, we offer classes in a variety of yoga styles,” Lunsford said. “Many of our students choose to take classes in more than one style in any given week or based on their needs at a particular time. Some students prefer to practice one style and a variety of classes allows them to find the style that suits them best. We want to become the yoga center of choice in Lake Placid and we feel it is an important step for us to take to broaden our offerings.”
Bell and Lunsford are also offering High Peaks 200 Hour Yoga Alliance Teacher Trainings, the first of which began in September. The teacher training program will not only provide students with an opportunity to teach yoga, but to deepen their own practices and share with others. More information about teacher trainings is available on the website, www.hotyogalakeplacid.com.
The new Viniyoga class is offered from 6 to 7:15 p.m. Thursdays and is taught by Helene Gibbens, E-RYT500.
Gibbens brings 14 years of teaching experience, certifications in two styles of yoga and more than 1,500 hours of training with leading yoga teachers. She will also be offering private classes to help people develop or adapt a home practice to their personal needs. A native of Montreal, she now lives in Saranac Lake.
In addition to this new weekly class, Mim Frantz has returned to Lake Placid Hot Yoga to teach a “Wake Up Warm Vinyasa” weekly class from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. Wednesdays.
Frantz is a well-known teacher in the area. She has developed a devoted student base working with local athletes as well as community members.
Eugene Sparks, who trained in Ashtanga yoga in India, teaches “Bikram and Ashtanga” yoga classes throughout the week. He brings enthusiasm and a deep love of Ashtanga yoga to his students. His devoted personal practice inspires his teaching.
Sue Murnane will be joining the teachers at Hot Yoga Lake Placid, teaching an “Hour of Power” class, focusing on strength and toning the body with yoga using optional weights.
There will also be workshops on various themes, which began in November with a 90-minute class that focuses on restoring and rejuvenating for the holiday season with Suzanne Weirich, a Svaroopa yoga teacher and a half day workshop in January that will focus on developing greater wellbeing throughout 2015 with Helene Gibbens.
