Tupper Lake student earns $500 scholarship
TUPPER LAKE — Grant Bencze of Tupper Lake received a $500 scholarship from Adirondack Regional Federal Credit Union last month.
Bencze, who graduated from Tupper Lake High School, will attend Clarkson University in the fall.
Bencze was one of 10 students to receive the Donald DeVirgeles Memorial Scholarship, awarded annually by Adirondack Regional FCU. The scholarships, awarded to students from Clinton, Essex, Franklin and St. Lawrence counties, honor of a former president of the credit union. Bencze and seven other students won scholarships worth $500, while two students received $1,000 apiece.
This year, the credit union received applications from 130 students representing 28 different school districts. Each of the students receiving scholarships demonstrated academic prowess and a commitment to serving their communities through volunteer activities and other deeds.
“We’re proud to support these students on their educational journeys,” said Russ Cronin, president and CEO of Adirondack Regional FCU. “Communities like ours get ahead when we all pitch in. Each of these students has already accomplished so much, and we’re excited to help them go even further.”
