Red Cross of Northeastern New York welcomes new members
The Northeastern New York Chapter of the American Red Cross has selected a new board chair and welcomed three new members to its Board of Directors.
The chapter is proud to serve Albany, Schenectady, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Warren, Washington, Hamilton, Fulton, Montgomery, Schoharie, Clinton, Franklin and Essex counties.
Rose Miller is the new board chair, and joining the board are Meridith J. Englander, MD, FSIR, FACR, medical director of Capital District Physicians’ Health Plan; Dan Irizarry, chairman of Capital District LATINOS, Inc.; and Meryl Mallery, vice president of Engineering at Plug Power Inc.

Rose Miller
–
Miller is president of Suite Advice, LLC, and the former president of Pinnacle Human Resources, which she sold in October 2021.
With a background in finance, human resources, and consulting, Miller specializes in C-Suite advisory and consulting services to small and medium size businesses. Miller is a frequently requested speaker both locally and nationally. She is the author of a monthly column “Work Matters” in the Business Section of the Albany Times Union, and her articles also appear in many other business journals. In 2018, she launched a podcast series, “The Thorn in Rose’s Side,” which has a growing audience of followers on Frosted Lens, iTunes and Soundcloud.
In addition to serving as board chair of the NENY Red Cross, she is board chair for Northern Rivers Family Services. She has served on many other boards for local nonprofits and business associations. Miller is passionate about causes such as children welfare, women’s rights, and the arts.

Dr. Meridith J. Englander

Englander joined CDPHP in November 2021 and currently serves as a medical director. In this role, she assists with utilization management and policy development, in addition to serving as chair of the pharmacy and therapeutics committee. Englander is also a professor of radiology at Albany Medical College and continues to lecture for the diagnostic and interventional radiology residency programs.
Englander represents the Society of Interventional Radiology as councilor to the American College of Radiology and delegate to the American Medical Association. She is a vocal advocate for gender equity issues in medicine and has published and presented widely on this topic. She was the inaugural chair of the Women in Interventional Radiology section of the Society of Interventional Radiology and was the 2020 recipient of the SIR Women in Interventional Radiology Champion Award. She also serves as treasurer of the American Association of Women in Radiology.

Dan Irizarry
–
Irizarry is a writer, community activist and founder and chairman of Capital District Latino Advocacy Through Inter-Neighborhood Outreach Services. Founded in 2011, CDL is a proud affiliate of the Acacia Network, the state’s largest Latino-led health and human services not-for-profit (second largest nationally). In December of 2017, CDL acquired the former St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church and repurposed the building as the CDL Cultural Empowerment & Community Engagement Center–the only area Latino-owned institution of its kind in the Capital Region. Irizarry’s writing has been published in the Albany Times Union, Schenectady Gazette, as well as the New York State Writers Institute’s Trolley Literary Journal. He is also a frequent guest on WAMC’s The Roundtable radio program.
As the founder and chairman of Capital District LATINOS, Irizarry was the driving force behind the establishment of Camino Nuevo, the area’s only fully bi-lingual chemical dependency treatment program.

Meryl Mallery

Mallery joined Plug Power Inc. as a vice president of Fuel Cell Engineering in 2022. In 2023, she became VP of engineering where she is responsible for the design and development of products to support the Applications and Energy Business units. She is focused on innovation and driving products to the next level of performance to support the build of the green energy roadmap. She leads engineering teams across the globe which includes test and material laboratories to develop fuel cell and electrolyzer products. She drives continuous improvement opportunities to enhance operational efficiency and is building and developing a team to support stated goals.
Mallery has over 25 years in the Aerospace Industry. Prior to joining Plug, she served as the vice president of engineering at Ensign-Bickford Aerospace and Defense. She led the engineering team which designed and developed innovative solutions to meet the needs of the Aerospace, Missiles and Warfighter markets for flight termination, rocket stage separation, satellite deployment and military breaching.
