A selection of 45 photos will be exhibited at the Lake Placid Center for the Arts from April 7 to 29, in tandem with the High School Juried Art Show. An open house will be held at LPCA on Friday, April 21 from 4 to 6 p.m. The photos will also be displayed on the Institute’s website, www.lakeplacidinstitute.org.

The 2023 photography contest was judged by Nancie Battaglia of Lake Placid, a widely published, award-winning sports photographer whose work has appeared in Sports Illustrated, The New York Times, National Geographic and Adirondack Life. Among her credentials are 12 Olympics and many World Cup and national competitions.

The Great Adirondack Young People’s Poetry Contest is open to all students in grades 1 to 12. This year the Institute received 246 submissions from 21 schools. Several poems from each grade have been selected for inclusion in the 2023 edition of “Words from the Woods,” an illustrated poetry chapbook. The 43 winners will recite their poems at a reception to be held at the LPCA on Saturday, April 22 at 2 p.m.

Judith Coopy, an avid poet from Keene Valley, served as juror.
