QUEENSBURY — When “Autumn Nights: 10 Sinister Stories to Skitter Up Your Spine” is released on Sept. 1, it will include a story by Warren County author, Frank L. Tybush.
Edited by Cass Kim, the 2021 anthology brings together 10 authors from around North America to help raise money for RIP Medical Debt, a nonprofit organization that uses donations to purchase medical debt portfolios at a discount and then forgive the medical debt held within that portfolio.
Tybush’s story, “Deathbed Confessions Are Not Beholden To NDAs,” is set in, and draws heavily on, folklore and urban legends surrounding the Adirondacks.
“I grew up outside of Albany and would go to Lake Champlain every summer,” Tybush said. “I would spend hours staring out at the water, hoping to see Champ. That love of the unknown has stuck with me, and I am endlessly fascinated by local lore. When I was asked to take part in the anthology, I immediately knew I wanted to honor the weirdness of the North Country. We have bigfoot sightings, we have a missile silo for sale, we even have a rumor of a defunct secret government facility — what better inspiration for bringing some autumn spookiness?”
“Autumn Nights: 10 Sinister Stories to Skitter Up Your Spine” is the third charity anthology released by Kim.

“It started as a fun way to celebrate my favorite season, fall, and to get my name out as an author a little more,” Kim said. “Along the way, it became clear that the best way to handle the royalties would be to donate them-the first book’s authors voted for the ASPCA. When that first anthology (“Autumn Nights: 13 Spooky Fall Reads”) sold really well and raised thousands of dollars, I decided to use that momentum and choose a new place to donate to each year. I try to select the non-profits with care, choosing places that turn every dollar into the equivalent of 10 for the purpose of the charity, like Feeding America and RIP Medical Debt.”
The anthology will have an e-book and physical edition. Pre-orders begin on Aug. 15 through Amazon and the collection will be released Sept. 1. The profits will be donated to RIP Medical Debt. To date, the nonprofit has relieved over $4.5 billion in medical debt.
