SARANAC LAKE — Catholic Schools Week was Jan. 31 to Feb. 6, and St. Bernard’s School students celebrated by giving to others.

Students listened to fifth-grade presentations via classroom videoconferencing to hear about local charities they would support through fun activities such as “Penny Wars” — competitive coin donations — and their own “Souper Bowl,” in which students collected canned soup and other non-perishable food items.

By week’s end, the students were able to donate a total of $648 to the Tri-Lakes Humane Society, the Grace Pantry and the Backpack program, as well as 425 food items to the Saranac Lake Interfaith Food Pantry.
