Eight LPHS seniors named as candidates for Winter Carnival king and queen

LAKE PLACID — Eight seniors at Lake Placid High School have been chosen as king and queen candidates for the school’s 78th annual Winter Carnival on Friday.

Dylan Bashaw

Dylan Bashaw is the daughter of Drew and Tracy Bashaw and lives in Lake Placid with her sister Adriane, brother Dane and their dog Cooper. She is a three-sport athlete competing in volleyball, track and field, and basketball. She enjoys art, working out and dancing. Dylan is a member of the Science Olympiad Team and Varsity Club. She enjoys cooking and plans to create a cookbook for healthy, sustainable eating for her senior project. She plans on going to college for nutrition and hopes to one day open and own her own store.

Ellie Bousquet

Ellie Bousquet is the daughter of Brett and Mary Bousquet of Lake Placid. Her family includes her dogs Roxie and Nevada as well as Mittens the cat. She is a two-sport athlete competing in volleyball and Alpine skiing. She is the senior class vice president and a member of the National Honor Society, Key Club and Environmental Club. Ellie enjoys being outside, hiking, skiing, reading, singing and theater. Her senior project plan is to revamp the garden at the Shipman Youth Center using sustainable agriculture practices. Ellie plans to pursue her interest in psychology with a minor in environmental science at a school on the West Coast.

Karis Hudson

Karis Hudson is the daughter of David Hudson and Lisa Randall of Lake Placid. She is the younger sister to Alex, Kayla and Alethea, and their family include dogs Charli, Bruno and Odin. Karis is a two-sport athlete competing in volleyball and tennis. She loves photography, cooking, reading and exercising. Karis is Key Club president and National Honor Society secretary. Her senior project has her pursuing her interest in photography while interning with Lake Placid Photography. She plans to attend college in the fall majoring in communications.

Deidra Kellerman

Deidra Kellerman is the daughter of Dave and Dana Kellerman of Lake Placid and is originally from Saratoga Springs. Her family includes her two dogs, Zuke and Zeppo, and a parrot named Pachis. Deidra is a three-season athlete competing in volleyball, track, and basketball. Along with being class president, she is a member of the National Honor Society, Environmental Club, Key Club and Guiding Eyes for the Blind. Deidra is raising a guiding eye dog named Clinton for Guiding Eyes for the Blind as part of her senior project. Deidra’s post-graduate plans include equestrian riding, pursuing a degree in law, applying to the Peace Corps and traveling.

Matthew Brandes

Matthew Brandes is the son of Brian and Alicia Brandes and brother to Haley, Alex and Colin of Lake Placid. He is a three-sport athlete including baseball, basketball and soccer. During the summer months, he plays baseball for the Mariners and soccer for Adirondack Freeze. Matthew is a member of the Robotics Team and enjoys hiking and hockey. He managed “Matt’s Minions,” the local T-ball team, this past summer for his senior project. He plans to pursue his interest in sports management at SUNY Adirondack while playing baseball and soccer.

Evan Brenner

Evan Brenner is the son of Ron and Diane Brenner of Lake Placid. His family includes his cats Nutmeg and Daisy. He is a two-sport athlete that enjoys running both cross country and track. Evan is a member of Key Club and enjoys being outdoors, participating in and watching sports. His senior project incorporates his love for running by embarking on a challenge to compete in the Unplugged Half Marathon in Vermont. He plans to pursue his interest in sports communications and business management in college.

Jack Lawrence

Jack Lawrence is the son of Donald and Mary Jane Lawrence and brother to Chelby and Sydney of Lake Placid. His family also includes Wally the dog. Jack is a three-sport athlete competing in Nordic skiing, track and field, and NYSEF ski jumping. He enjoys the outdoors while fly fishing, hunting, water skiing and ski jumping. Jack will be building cedar benches for outdoor seating at the middle-high school for his senior project. Jack plans to pursue a career in natural resource conservation through college at the University of Vermont.

Anders Stanton

Anders Stanton is the son of Ingrid Rand and Joel Stanton of Lake Placid and brother to Tanner, Tess and Tristin. His family also includes dogs Tank and Koda, and their bunny Chowder. Anders is a four-year, three-sport athlete, competing in hockey, soccer and golf. He plays hockey on both the high school team and the ADK 46ers. He is also a member of Drama Club and Student Council. He loves hiking, mountain biking, painting, playing guitar, singing and skiing. His senior project is giving back to his community by repainting the kickboard at the North Elba Show Grounds, coaching kindergarten soccer this past summer, and honoring soldiers and veterans. Anders plans to attend the United States Air Force Academy, studying physics and mathematics and serving his country upon graduation from the Academy.
