SARANAC LAKE — Cedar Young, a senior at Saranac Lake High School, has been named a Commended Student in the 2021 National Merit Scholarship Program.

That means she placed among the top 50,000 scorers of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2021 competition by taking the 2019 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). Of those, she is one of 34,000 Commended Students, while another 16,000 move on as Semifinalists in the 2021 competition that will result in 7,600 National Merit Scholarship awards. The list of this year’s Semifinalists shows none in the North Country.

SLHS Principal Josh Dann, who announced the news Friday, Sept. 25, will present a Letter of Commendation to Young from the school and the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, which conducts the program.
