Saranac Lake native Wilson receives MD from Upstate Medical

SYRACUSE — Arianne J. Wilson, a native of Saranac Lake, graduated with a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from the State University of New York Upstate Medical University in Syracuse during an April 10 ceremony held via video connections, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Wilson, the daughter of Pat and Peter Wilson of Lake Clear, completed her undergraduate studies at Villanova University with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology, Class of 2016.

During her four-year doctorate studies, she was selected for the Gold Humanism Honor Society. Organized by the Arnold P. Gold Foundation, the GHHS recognizes senior medical students for “demonstrated excellence in clinical care, leadership, compassion and dedication to service.” Honorees (no more than 15% of a class) are nominated and elected by their peers.

Also during her studies, Arianne Wilson returned to her home region for clinical rotations at Adirondack Medical Center and affiliated physicians’ offices, as part of the Rural Medical Scholars program.

At the commencement, she was the recipient of the Binghamton Campus Department of Family Medicine Award. That honor is “presented to a primary care student who has demonstrated the characteristics desired in an ideal family physician: dedication, enthusiasm, medical knowledge, respect and empathy in caring for all patients regardless of age, race, gender, socio-economic status, or disease process.”

In June, Wilson began her medical residency in family medicine at MedStar (Georgetown University) Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C.
