Koehler & Kelly blazing new grooves

PLATTSBURGH — Koehler & Kelly perform a live outdoor concert in downtown Plattsburgh on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

Koehler & Kelly set fiddle tunes ablaze with new grooves, creating a unique soundscape as they blend the raw energy of traditional fiddling and dance music with the nuanced lyricism and irresistible rhythms of jazz piano. “Masterful,” writes Fiddler Magazine of the duo’s dynamic sound.

The performance is part of a new drive-in concert series “Curbside at Harborside” created in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Following the format used successfully at drive-in movie theatres nationwide, the concerts offer the public a safe way to gather for live music performance while abiding by social distancing protocols.

Together live in concert, Koehler & Kelly spark an innovative musical conversation that transcends musical boundaries while celebrating their deep respect for folk music traditions. The fiddle and piano weave in and out of jigs and reels ranging from elegant to fierce, sensitive to searing. Their approach has caught the attention of the folk music establishment, most notably NPR’s Thistle & Shamrock showcasing “Best New Sounds” from rising artists.

Admission is $20 per carload (cash only) payable at the entrance to the Harborside Lot. The gate opens at 6:30 pm. Vehicles will be parked first-come, first-served, directed by volunteer attendants. All passengers must bring face masks to wear whenever they exit their vehicles.
