LPHS names valedictorian, salutatorian

Sara McKillip

LAKE PLACID — Lake Placid High School announced last week that Sara McKillip will be the valedictorian of this year’s graduating class, and Elise Pearson will be the salutatorian.

Valedictorian

Sara McKillip is the daughter of David and Rebecca McKillip of Lake Placid. Her family includes her two sisters, Kaleigh and Kelsey, and Bean the cat. She was born in Burlington, Vermont, and attended Lake Placid Elementary School.

Elise Pierson

She competes in volleyball, basketball and softball. She enjoys baking, reading, writing and theater in her free time. She is the senior class vice president, president of the National Honor Society, a member of the Student Council, a member of Women’s Ensemble and a member of Vacation Bible School.

For her senior project, she is creating a website to help support other kids who have been diagnosed with cancer.

After graduation, she plans to pursue her interest in environmental studies and English. She is currently undecided and weighing her options regarding a college decision.

Salutatorian

Elise Pierson is the daughter of William Pierson and Kristina Pierson of Wilmington. Her family includes her sister Alexandra, Teeka the dog and her cats Snowflake and Felix. She was born in Saranac Lake and attended Lake Placid Elementary School.

She competes in soccer and basketball. She enjoys reading, skiing and kayaking. She is a member of Environmental Club, French Club, National Honor Society, the Wild Center’s Youth Climate Program and the Lake Placid Village Climate Smart Communities Task Force.

For her senior project, she restarted the high school French Club to teach interested students more about French history, culture and language in a fun and interactive setting. As part of this, she and 11 other students traveled to Montreal for the day to explore the culture this past January.

After graduation, she plans to attend St. Lawrence University.
