Saranac Lake Voluntary Health Association names scholarship winners

SARANAC LAKE – The Saranac Lake Voluntary Health Association congratulates the six recipients of its annual scholarships given to second year North Country Community College students in the registered nurse and radiologic technology programs.

This year’s scholarship winners include Jaclyn Latourelle, Paula Jacobson, and Michelle Crowley of Saranac Lake; Jolette Yates of Lake Placid, Dylan LaBare of Chateaugay, and Olivia Atkinson of Vermontville.

Every year, scholarships are awarded to NCCC registered nurse or radiologic technology students residing in Essex, Franklin or Hamilton counties. The winning applicant has to complete a brief essay, be in good academic standing, and submit two letters of recommendation.

This year the winner were awarded $2,000 scholarships after successfully completely the necessary requirements.

Each recipient has a different reason for entering their chosen field from exploring the New Visions program through BOCES, volunteering at Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital in the Junior Volunteer Program, reentering the workforce after an extended absence, or a career change. Though the reasons for choosing an RN or rad tech career are varied, each recipient was honored for their commitment to learning, developing new skills, and passion for helping people.

The Saranac Lake Voluntary Health wishes all scholarship recipients a successful second year as they pursue their chosen careers to becoming kind and compassionate members of the medical profession.

The Saranac Lake Voluntary Health Association Inc. is a nonprofit organization established in 1897 dedicated to improving the health of the people within the Saranac Lake Central School District through funding health care initiatives such as the Saranac Lake Elementary School dental hygienist, adult dental grants and a visiting nurse as well as scholarships for students in the medical, nursing, rehabilitative and allied fields of study.
