Paul Smith’s College Day of Service

SARANAC LAKE – Paul Smith’s College students and staff recently took on three Saranac Lake park projects.

Over 200 volunteer hours will focus on control of erosion, weed invasive plants and survey improvements.

Paul Smith’s Shakirra Jones has been coordinating this effort with Parks and Trail Advisory Board Chairman Lindy Ellis.

“Paul Smith’s encourages their students and staff to volunteer to the community. Students have been signing up to participate in this Smitty Days for Saranac Lake. The Culinary Club is involved as well, providing lunch for the volunteers.”

“The goal is for students to learn as they volunteer for park improvements,” Ellis said. “Our Parks Plan, developed over the last two years with community input, helped us identify projects quickly.”

In all, over 30 students and staff are volunteering their time at William Morris Park, the SkatePark, and the Riverwalk.
