SL boys stay unbeaten in XC

The unbeaten Saranac Lake boys cross-country running team swept a three-way meet at Point au Roche state park with Beekmantown and Seton Catholic Tuesday, while the girls handily beat Beekmantown and just lost to Seton Catholic.

In the boys race, Red Storm runners went one-two-three, with Anderson Gray finishing first overall with a time of 16 minutes, 43 seconds. Jacob Alberga (16:48) took second and James Catania (16:50) placed third.

The Saranac Lake boys took eight of the top 10 spots, with Peter Fogarty (17:05) in fifth and brother Andrew Fogarty (17:11) in sixth. Adam Hesseltine and Micah McCulley (17:22) crossed the finish line together, and Tucker Jakobe rounded out the top 10 with a time of 17:52.

On the girls side, Red Storm standout Katie Samperi (20:18) placed second, eighth-grader Bella Wissler was sixth with a time of 21:20, and Gwen Mader rounded out the Red Storm’s presence in the top 10 with a finish time of 21:23.

The boys beat Beekmantown 15-50 and Seton Catholic 17-46 in team scoring. Seton Catholic squeaked out a victory over the Red Storm girls 27-30, but Saranac Lake topped Beekmantown 21-36.

The Red Storm travel to Saratoga for an invitational meet on Saturday.

Lake Placid sweeps

cross-country

PLATTSBURGH — The Lake Placid boys and girls cross-country teams each earned two victories on Tuesday over Plattsburgh and Northeastern Clinton. The boys topped Plattsburgh 26-31 and Northeastern Clinton by the same score. The girls came out on top of Plattsburgh 19-42 and bested Northeastern Clinton 15-50.

Lake Placid’s Noah Fine took second with a time of 17:50, while Mike Skutt (19:27) was fifth and Van Ledger (19:31) was sixth. Max Flanigan finished ninth with a time of 20:24.

On the girls side, Annie Rose-McCandlish took first overall with a time of 22:14. The Bombers then took third through seventh, with Maddie Cohen (24:37) in third, followed by Sandra Harper (24:48), Alexa Harper (25:26), Marli Damp and Sara Rose-McCandlish (25:53).

Lake Placid hosts a three-way meet next Tuesday at Mount Van Hoevenberg.

PLATTSBURGH – Plattsburgh High topped the Saranac Lake girls soccer team 5-0 in Plattsburgh Tuesday, with Red Storm goalkeeper Mecalyn Sousa recording five saves in the game.

Northern Adirondack 1

ELLENBURG — The Lake Placid girls soccer team traveled to Ellenburg Tuesday and came home with a win 3-1 win over Northern Adirondack. The Bombers’ spread the scoring around, with Olivia Ferebee, Lydia Bullock and Emma Adragna each finding the back of the net.

Brook Paries earned credit for 16 saves for Lake Placid.

Volleyball

CLINTONVILLE — The Lake Placid volleyball team got swept in an away match at AuSable Valley Tuesday, but forced the first set to go to extra points. The Patriots won in three straight sets, 27-25, 25-15 and 25-18.

Sophomore Grace Crawford led the way for the Blue Bombers with two points, two aces, seven kills and seven digs. Evelyn Sharp had five points, five aces, six kills, three digs and eight assists.
