Red Storm youngsters named all-stars
SARANAC LAKE — Three student athletes on this spring’s Saranac Lake girls lacrosse team were named to Section X all-star teams, and another host of Red Storm players were also honored by the league for sportsmanship and academics.
Sophomore Lindsey Rath led the way as a first-team selection, while Lydia Bullock and Ryley Fischer were Section X second-team choices.
The three players combined for an impressive 75 goals on a young squad that will lose just one player to graduation.
A three-year varsity starter, Rath plays a strong game from end line to end line and handles most of the faceoffs for the Red Storm. She finished with 25 goals and two assists.
Just an eighth-grader, Bullock completed her second year for Saranac Lake and led the team in goals scored with 30, and also contributed five assists.
Fischer has been an impact player on the team for three seasons, and often carried the ball into Saranac Lake’s attacking end of the field. She finish the season with 20 goals and two assists.
Saranac Lake’s lone senior, Aurelle Fogarty was also honored with the sportsmanship award. In addition, Fogarty, Rath, Fischer, Meghan Byrne, Julia Chapin, Mistre Newton, Erica Swirsky, Holly Kurtz, Hannah Bradley and Kylee Clark were named Section X all-academic players. That recognition goes out to student-athletes who are sophomores and older who have a cumulative grade average of 87 or higher.
Saranac Lake’s girls finished with a 4-8 record in a competitive season. And losing just one senior on the roster, the Red Storm have even higher expectations as most of the team will return next spring with another season’s worth of experience.
“I’m very proud of these girls,” Saranac Lake coach Shannon Muldowney said. “I was happy to see them recognized for all of their hard work.”
