Chiefs shut down Lake Placid

PICKETTS CORNERS – The Lake Placid baseball team struggled at the plate Wednesday, and paid for it as the Saranac Chiefs claimed a 9-0 shutout win at home over the Blue Bombers.

Lake Placid managed just one hit in the game, which came in the later innings.

Zack Marlow paced the Chiefs on the mound and at the plate. Marlow was the starting pitcher and threw hitless baseball over the course of five innings before Logan Matthews worked the final two frames and gave up a single hit in relief.

Marlow finished with a double and three RBIs in the win. Dylan Stoughton also chipped in a double and a single, and Nick Mather rapped out a two-run single.

The Chiefs scored twice in their first at bat, added two more runs in the third and then put the game away with a five-run fifth inning.

Kamm Cassidy started on the mound for Lake Placid and took the loss in five innings of work. Noah Mohr pitched the final frame for the Blue Bombers.

Lake Placid is next slated to play at home Tuesday against Moriah starting at 4:30 p.m.
