Stefanik backs family farms

To the editor:

Each year there are fewer and fewer dairy farms operating across the North Country. Changes in demand, increasing costs, labor shortages, stiff competition and international trade issues are taking their toll. New York and its tradition of small, independent dairy farms has been hit especially hard, and the issue is on the verge of becoming a crisis. If we’re to save thousands of families and farms, we need strong allies in government.

Elise Stefanik has been that ally in D.C. Stefanik has fought for us. She’s gone to task with opposing interests in Congress and the business world, big agriculture and government red tape. For example, her legislation, the Family Farm Relief Act, would expand the H-2A visa program to dairy farmers so we can address labor shortages. Her co-sponsorship of the DAIRY PRIDE Act will enforce correct labeling of dairy alternatives — something that has caused a lot of concern among farmers.

Dairy issues are just one concern for many of us in the North Country. All while advocating for farmers, Stefanik is working to improve health care, improve broadband, protect our fragile environments and make doing business here easier. I hope that the results she has delivered will get you out to vote for her this November.
