Ratigan will bring solutions to NY21

To the editor:

I support Dylan Ratigan for the congressional seat in New York’s 21st District.

Dylan Ratigan brings constructive solutions to complex problems. He knows how to build a coalition to work on the problem and then get the money to see it through.

Over the past several months, I have met with all but one of the candidates and spent hours listening to their positions and asking them questions. I have also seen them at forums, online and at events. Each of these candidates has qualities that recommend them, and I will support whoever wins the primary.

As someone who takes my responsibility as a voter seriously, you may wonder why I am supporting the candidate who took a sabbatical from voting from the Clinton years until now. It is because of what he did in those intervening years. Ratigan was tired of a broken electoral system that rewards big money and corruption, so he decided to work on fixing it. He built a coalition of over 300,000 people to get big money out of politics, and he helped usher in rank voting in Maine.

“As long as we have an auction system for our government, where 94 percent of the time, the candidate that raises the most money wins, we just have a policy auction that is not, by definition, a democracy. By definition, it is a corrupted system with misaligned interests that prevents us from doing anything else that we want to do.” (“Dylan Ratigan: Get The Money Out Of Politics,” Business Insider, Oct. 14, 2011)

Bottom line: I like the way Ratigan thinks and then takes action. His approach can be aptly applied no matter what the issue is.

For once, our district has some real choices, and I choose Ratigan.
