Y.A. Tittle played 10 years for San Francisco in the 1950s, went to the Pro Bowl four times, led the league in touchdown passes in 1955 and was named league best player in 1957. Traded to New York in 1960 at age 34, he led the Giants to three straight championship games. He retired as the league’s all-time leader in passing yards, touchdowns, attempts, completions and games played. He entered the NFL Hall of Fame in 1971. He died last month at age 90.
Jana Novotna, a Czech tennis player, also died last month at age 49 of cancer. She won mostly at doubles but appeared in three Wimbledon singles finals before winning in 1998. She famously lost to Steffi Graf in 1993 after being up 5-1 in the last set and wept openly on the Duchess of Kent’s shoulder while getting the runner-up plate.
Ron Keough may have lost his first election after serving many years on the Harrietstown town board. He impressed me with his knowledge of the town hall and the Dewey Mountain ski center. Congratulations to him and Peg on their 60th wedding anniversary.
