Change isn’t needed in Harrietstown

To the editor:

When you have excellence, don’t change!

A group called “Voters for Change” creates a forum, sets all the rules and then wonders why tried and true candidatures who have been doing a great job don’t show up to participate in a stacked deck. Perhaps if a nonpartisan group had planned the event, all could participate on a fair playing field. Change is a good thing if politicians are not doing a good job at representing their constituents; however, if they are performing well, it’s risky business to change.

Under our current Harrietstown town politicians we have seen several improvements and repairs in the town hall. When I ask supervisors questions to find solutions to problems, it’s always, “How can we help?” (instead of roadblocks). During the blizzard last winter they did a great job of keeping the roads open and safe. In the middle of the night, on several occasions, I was returning home from Utica in bad weather conditions and knew exactly when I hit the Harrietstown line because the road was clean and safe.

After a discussion, a day or two later I might get a phone call or stopped on the sidewalk downtown, and the conversation starts with, “I’ve been thinking about that, and here are a couple of solutions to the problem.” I am not voting for “Change.” I will be voting for both Republicans and Democrats because Mr. Keough, Mr. Donaldson and Mr. Goetz sign their work with excellence and have earned our support.
