A huge thank-you from Relay for Life

To the editor:

A big thank-you to all businesses, resorts, restaurants, friends and family members who supported the 12th annual Relay for Life, held on the Lake Placid Oval Sept. 20. The event raised over $45,000 for American Cancer Society’s fight against cancer.

This year there were 64 survivors honored and many more remembered who did not survive the fight against cancer. The day was filled with entertainment, great food and camaraderie. Special survivors spoke about their individual battles with cancer. Others, a husband and friend, spoke about the brave fight of a loved one who died this year. Many were caregivers, family members and friends who have been touched in some way by this devastating disease. One young, 15-year-old man ran 23 miles during the day in honor of his mother, who died this year of cancer. An inspiration!

We in the North Country have raised over half a million dollars in the 11 years to fund this fight. We should be proud to have participated in this very successful campaign against this devastating disease. You should be proud of your efforts. It shows we can do so much when we ban together!

Our theme: “Celebrate, Remember, Fight Back,” which we have done so well.

Thank you for all you have done!
