Elizabeth “Betty Jo” J. Colby
Elizabeth J. Colby from Ellenburg Depot was called home on March 2, 2019.
She was born in Saranac Lake on May 5,1947, to Phillip and Betty Gallo. Elizabeth graduated from St.Pius X High School in Saranac Lake. While still in school, she worked at the library and Blue Gentian in Saranac Lake. Later on, she worked as a meter maid and a housekeeper at the Hilton and Ramada Inn in Lake Placid.
She lived most of her life in Saranac Lake. On Dec. 9, 2001, she married her longtime partner Robert Colby.
Elizabeth was a very strong woman, a loving devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She loved spending time with her family and enjoyed listening to music and dancing. She had a contagious smile and was kind to everyone she came across and never judged anyone. She never asked anyone for anything. She will be terribly missed by her friends, family and anyone that knew her.
Elizabeth is survived by her mother Betty Gallo of Saranac Lake; her husband Robert Colby; four daughters: Bridget Thomas, Sarah Colby, Kathleen Ecker and Stephanie Colby; one brother, Phillip Gallo; and an aunt, nieces, nephews and many cousins.
She was predeceased by her father Phillip Gallo and a grandson, Jordan Colby-Snyder.
Calling hours will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday, March 8 at Brown’s Funeral in Plattsburgh. A mass will follow immediately after at St. Peter’s Church.
