Hunter pleads guilty to hurting En-Con officer

HUDSON (AP) — A 55-year-old New York man has pleaded guilty to assault in connection with the wounding of an environmental conservation officer last fall.

Alan Blanchard, of Gallatin, pleaded guilty Friday to a Class D felony in Columbia County Court.

Troopers say 39-year-old Officer James Davey was investigating reports last November of illegal hunting after dusk. He was walking in a corn field about 40 miles southeast of Albany when he was hit in the pelvis area by a bullet fired from Blanchard’s rifle.

Davey was taken to a hospital and underwent surgery for his injuries. State officials say he is still undergoing rehabilitation.

Blanchard is due back in court in April for sentencing. He faces up to seven years in jail and a $5,000 fine.
