SARANAC LAKE — A van crashed into the living room of a neighbor’s house on Lake Street Thursday evening, resulting in only minor injuries reported by the driver, according to a village police press release.
The driver, Ronald McCasland, with his wife Lucy McCasland in the passenger seat, traveled down the incline of their driveway in a gray 2012 Ford Transit Van, and across the street into the living room of Ruth and C.J. Hagmann. Ruth, her sister and two sons were in the house during the crash.
Ruth said her two sons — Hudson, 3, and Dax, 1, were in the living room when the van struck the house.
“I’m just so thankful everyone is okay,” Ruth said. “But thank god it’s big enough that they weren’t close to this … I thought my son had pulled the TV down or something. I’ve never heard a sound like that.”
Ruth said she and her sister gathered up her sons and ran outside.

“There was dust everywhere,” Ruth said.
According to village police, Ronald McCasland was transported via Saranac Lake Rescue Squad to Adirondack Health with a complaint of pain in his right hand and lightheadedness.
Village police were dispatched to the scene at approximately 3:14 p.m.
On scene, the van was halfway into the house and covered with rubble, trapping the McCaslands in the vehicle.
The Saranac Lake Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched at 3:17 p.m. Fire Chief Brendan Keough said the crew assisted the McCaslands in exiting the vehicle.
The van was then removed from the structure by Maddens Towing. Portions of the brick wall around the vehicle collapsed as the van was removed.
“We’ll be rebuilding,” C.J. said. “Forced renovation.”
Village police said the cause of the crash is under investigation.
