Lightning strikes veterans club, sparking small fire
SARANAC LAKE — The Saranac Lake Volunteer Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 3:37 a.m. today after lightning struck the Saranac Lake Veterans Memorial Association at 202 Broadway.
Three trucks and 12 members responded to the call and immediately extinguished the small fire. By the time they had arrived, there was a small fire in the front of the building around the front entry door frame, escaping the front of the building.
No one was injured, and the crew was back in service at 5:55 a.m.
During the call, the Lake Placid Volunteer Fire Department stood in for the Saranac Lake department as they extinguished the flames. The LPVFD was back in service at 5:30 a.m.
