SARANAC LAKE — The executive director of the Saranac Lake Area Chamber of Commerce resigned Thursday from the 230-member organization, according to board members, for reasons not yet revealed to the Enterprise.
Adrienne Relyea, of Vermontville was appointed in August 2017, replacing outgoing Executive Director Johnny Muldowney.
She came into the job with a vision of bringing the chamber back to its former glory, like it was when she was the chamber’s director of membership from 2007 to 2012.
She wanted to better define what the chamber does and separate its mission from the Regional Office of Sustainable Tourism, which has filled several of the chamber’s roles in recent years.
“The chamber needs to define itself and have its own website for its members,” Relyea said in September.
Seven years ago, the chamber contracted with ROOST to manage the website, which publicizes area events and encourages tourism.
She had business seminars planned on topics like health insurance and Quickbooks, and she booked “Business After Hours” events once a month through May 2018.
The chamber’s executive committee has begun a search for a new executive director and Danielle Delaini, a chamber board member, is stepping up to serve as interim chamber administrator, according to an email from the chamber’s members.
Relyea did not return requests for comment made over the weekend before publication.
