Fire tower fever to hit Blue Mountain Lake this weekend

The Adirondack Mountain Club and Adirondack Experience (formerly the Adirondack Museum) will celebrate the history and restoration of Adirondack fire towers Saturday in Blue Mountain Lake.

The family-friendly event will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the museum, and will include guided hikes, talks with fire tower volunteers, book signings, presentations and a Smokey the Bear-themed scavenger hunt.

The guided hikes include trips up Blue Mountain, which has a fire tower, and a walk around museum grounds including ascensions of the on-site fire tower.

People will also be able to find out more about the Fire Tower Challenge, a hiking challenge that requires hikers to visit all five of the Catskills’ remaining fire towers, as well as most of the Adirondack towers.
