Centennial celebrations for St. Regis Mountain Fire Tower

The Friends of St Regis Mountain Fire Tower are celebrating the Centennial of the St. Regis Mountain Fire Tower.

The work of the Friends group, the state Department of Environmental Conservation, the Students Conservation Association, the Adirondack Watershed Institute and their many volunteers and supporters has resulted in the tower being opened to the public on Sept. 1, 2016. In 2018, the group will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the tower.

A presentation of “The Restoration and History of Adirondack Fire Towers” will be presented by author Marty Podskoch on July 28 at 2 p.m. at the Paul Smith’s College Visitor Interpretive Center located at 8023 state Route 30.

The celebration will be held at the Lake Clear Lodge and Retreat at 1:30 p.m. Aug. 5. Hors d’oeuvres prepared by the Lodge staff will be available, as well as a cash bar. In addition to guest speakers and an opportunity to purchase fire tower gifts and raffle tickets, musical entertainment will be provided by The Birch Boys. A special dinner rate will be available to anyone interested in staying for dinner.

Reservations are not required for either event, but if you are a Facebook user, go to the event page and RSVP or send an email to friendsofstregis@gmail.com.
